The Bushfire Research Group is at the forefront of bushfire research in Australia and globally, with research focus in the areas of dynamic fire propagation, extreme fire development, severe fire weather events, fire behaviour modelling, ember spread, bushfire risk at the wildland-urban interface, and more.

The Bushfire Research Group’s mission is to improve understanding of bushfire and associated processes, their relation to firefighter and community safety and sustainable environmental outcomes.

We do this by:

  1. Conducting fundamental and applied research into bushfire drivers, behaviour and propagation.
  2. Developing scientifically rigorous models that integrate with fire safety and bushfire riskmanagement systems.
